About the event
Night Marathon Ulaanbaatar is the country's largest evening road race. Every distance starts and finishes at Sükhbaatar Square and loops through a fully closed, fully lit downtown course — past the Government Palace, along Peace Avenue, and back under the finish arch while the square is still full.
Distances
Three distances, one start line. Entries are capped per distance and close once the field is full.
Start 19:30 · Ages 10+
One lap of the closed centre. The family distance — walkers, first-timers, and strollers all welcome.
Start 20:00 · Ages 14+
Two laps, flat and fast, with the loudest stretch of the course saved for the second time round.
Start 20:20 · Ages 18+
The half marathon. Out along Peace Avenue and back, finishing under the arch just before midnight.
Event highlights
Every kilometre is floodlit and marshalled, from the square out to the turnaround and back. No dark corners, no traffic.
Bands, throat singers, and DJ stages spaced along the route, plus a drum line at the steepest part of the return leg.
A new medal design each year, handed over at the arch, with a technical shirt in your race pack at bib pickup.
Your bib carries a chip that logs the start and finish. Splits go out by SMS so friends can track you from the square.
The centre shuts from mid-afternoon. Free late buses run for anyone wearing a bib, in both directions.
Bag drop, warm-up sessions, food stalls, and the expo — open hours before the first gun and long after the last finisher.
Sunset is at 19:42 — the 21K field runs the whole second half in the dark.
Partners
The race is put on with the city and a group of partners who fund the road closures, the lighting, and the medical crews.
